The present invention relates to a method of processing an audio signal of an MPEG-1 audio encoder. Since an encoder needs 1152 data per channel to complete a bit string of one packet, 2304 audios are used to complete a bit string of one packet in stereo. While data is required, another 2304 data are stored in the input first-in first-out memory IF while 2304 data are input to the digital signal processing unit DSP for processing.;In this case, the real-time implementation allows all 2304 data input to the DSP to be processed and output as an encoded bit string before the number of data stored in the IF becomes 2304, and the DSP accesses the IF when an interrupt is received by the controller. 2304 data are transferred to SRAM, and the data is analyzed and processed according to the MPEG-1 audio coding algorithm to produce an encoded bit string.;As the bit string is completed, the DSP transmits the completed bit string to the controller and divides the received bit string into 8 bits and stores them as OF.;By allowing the user computer to perform the steps of accessing OF and receiving stored data, the encoder operates in real time and obtains a high quality compressed audio signal.
