The present invention relates to a recombinant Escherichia coli producing PHB (poly-3-hydroxybutyrate) from whey and a method for producing PHB using the same. More specifically, the present invention is transformed into a recombinant plasmid containing a PHB synthetic gene of Alcaligenes eutrophus, and cultured in a whey containing medium and recombinant E. coli which effectively produces PHB from whey It relates to a method for producing PHB. The recombinant E. coli of the present invention effectively produces PHB from low-cost and environmentally-contaminated whey, contributing to environmental protection as well as economic production of PHB.
