FIELD: plastic metal working, possibly forging connecting rods with large difference of cross sections. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of shaping end portions of blank in open parts of gang-draw groove of first transition and simultaneous change of cross sections and length of designed zone of blank in closed part of said groove; performing finish forging in open groove of second transition; simultaneously performing drawing, shaping and preliminary forging in gang-draw groove of first transition; at shaping process fixing position of blank by means of stop. Die set for two-transition forging of connecting rods includes upper and lower inserts with gravures forming gang-draw groove for realizing drawing, shaping and preliminary forging of blank at first transition. Die set includes open finish groove for second transition. There is stop on end of lengthwise axis of gang-draw groove of first transition of lower insert arranged at side of maximum-size and hard-to-fill portion. EFFECT: enhanced strength of finish groove of die set. 3 cl, 6 dwg
