Dispersed composite materials are produced by coating a dust plasma by gaseous phase deposition in a gas discharge plasma. A process and system for producing dispersed composite materials comprise a coating process in which fine particles of at least nanometer size are introduced as a dusty plasma into a gas discharge plasma and then a coating material vapor or gas is introduced. Preferred Features: The process parameters are given by the relationship: (33.6kT/( iota oId2 phi 2))3 = nd = eni/(Id2 pi iota o phi ) where nd = average particle density (m-3) in the plasma, k = Boltzmann constant (J/K), T = plasma-forming gas temperature (K), iota o = electric constant (F/m), Id = average particle size (m), e = electron charge (C), ni = ion concentration in the plasma-forming gas, and phi = open potential (V) of the particles in the plasma. The process may comprise two or more stages in which the component concentrations satisfy the condition nk = n(T) in the first stage and nk n(T) in the second or subsequent stages.
