Production of zinc sulfide, useful in hydrometallurgical recovery of zinc, involves filtering and washing precipitate obtained from residual impure zinc sulfate electrolyte and impure sodium sulfide solution from barium sulfate production
Production of zinc sulfide (ZnS) for the recovery of zinc (Zn) comprises: (i) filtering ZnS suspension formed by coprecipitation from: (a) residual impure zinc sulfate solution from the hydrometallurgical recovery of metallic zinc from roast zinc ore and (b) impure sodium sulfide solution obtained as byproduct in the precipitation of very finely-divided, white barium sulfate; and (ii) washing the ZnS. Production of zinc sulfide (ZnS) for the recovery of zinc (Zn) comprises: (i) filtering ZnS suspension formed by coprecipitation from: (a) residual impure zinc sulfate solution from the hydrometallurgical recovery of metallic zinc from roast zinc ore and (b) impure sodium sulfide solution obtained as byproduct in the precipitation of very finely-divided, white barium sulfate; and (ii) washing the ZnS. (I) contains cationic and/or anionic impurity element(s) and accumulates as residue in the hydrometallurgical recovery of metallic zinc by dissolving the zinc oxide present in roast zinc ore in recycled electrolyte containing dilute sulfuric acid. (II) contains cationic and/or anionic impurity elements and accumulates as by-product in the precipitation of barium sulfide solution and sodium sulfate solution to produce very finely-divided, white barium sulfate.
