Metallocenes with an amino-substituted rigid 3-carbon bridge are used as catalysts in a process for the production of cyclo-olefin copolymers by polymerisation of cyclic olefins with 1-olefins other than propylene. A process for the production of cyclo-olefin copolymers by polymerisation of cyclic olefins with 1-olefins other than propylene in presence of a compound of formula (I): M = a Group 3, 4, 5 or 6 metal, or a lanthanide or actinide metal; R1, R5 = H or a 1-40C carbon-containing group or an SiR6- group, or two or more of these groups together with the linking ring atoms may form an optionally substituted 4-24C ring system; R6 = H or a 1-40C carbon-containing group; R2, R3 = as for R1, R5; R4 = NR7R8; R7, R8 = H or a 1-40C carbon-containing group, or R7 and R8 may be combined to form an optionally substituted 4-24C ring system; X = H, 1-10C alkyl or alkoxy, 6-10C aryl or aryloxy, 2-10C alkenyl, 7-40C aralkyl or alkaryl, 8-40C aralkenyl, OH or halogen; m, n, p = 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4.
