The catheter (2) for intravascular radiation treatment of body vessels accommodates a radiation source which comes in contact with the treatment location and has a section (3) which is spiral-shaped during treatment. The section is arranged at the distal end of the catheter and can be stretched by a suitable device, which is a comparatively stiff component locatable from the proximal end of the catheter into the spiral-shaped area, which it stretches. The proximal end (15) of the catheter is coupled by means of a connecting device (11,12) to a connecting tube (14), through which the radiation source (8) is introduced into the catheter.
