The assembly consists of a cascade arrangement of combined filter and treatment basins, each containing a pre-determined mixture of filter and reaction material which promote given biochemical reactions. The ingredients include peat, compost and sand. The basins may be separated by a reed bed operated as a buffer unit. The number of basins is dependent upon the pollution load.
