The sensor has a code track (12) with a number of individual optoelectronic transducer elements in a sensor array. A further optoelectronic functional unit is provided for detecting the angular position of the steering wheel within the whole steering lock range, using a sensor array with a code track. A common sensor array is used to detect the code tracks for each functional unit.
