Circumferential and lateral register adjustment method for printing roller of printing machine by comparing actual position of individual images with desired position and adjusting rollers accordingly

The method involves selecting a printed image on a web from a printing roller as a reference image. The superimposed printed image is photographically imaged after printing by several printing rollers. The actual position of the individual images w.r.t each other is compared with the desired position, and a correction signal is generated to adjust the rollers. The process is repeated during printing. The imaging may be performed by a video camera. The use of the method in a one cylinder printing machine and a flexographic printing machine is also claimed.
