The connector has a base board in an essentially rectangular solid shaped housing (1) and a number of modules accommodating at least one connection element (2.2') via a module carrier plate (3) for connection to the base board. The housing has module holders (5) and each module is reversibly coupled to the base board via plug connector strips. Each module has a module board connected to the respective module carrier plate, matching the connection element(s) and coupling the module to the base board via the plug connector strip. The holders have chambers for accommodating modules and openings for connector strips.
