The coupling device uses coupling cushions (11,12) associated with the bearing plate (8) for the examined beast, which is positioned above the X-ray film cassette (4), or X-ray detector and/or the cooperating compression plate (9), on the side of the X-ray source. The coupling cushions are filled with water via pumps, with sidewards deformation upon filling, so that the breast is enclosed on all sides, the ultrasound array (6) positioned on the same side of the compression plate as the X-ray source, or interchangeable with the X-ray cassette or X-ray detector.
