Flat sealing strip (10) comprises an upper surface (12) and a lower surface (14) permanently joined by a copper layer (16). Copper is applied to at least the upper and/or the lower surface in the form of a thin flat copper layer using a transfer process. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of a bituminous sealing strip comprising heating the bitumen to the melting temperature, forming flat, and then applying copper to the upper and/or lower surface of the hot bitumen so that the copper forms a permanent join with the heated thermoplastic adhesive upper and/or lower surface of the bitumen.
