The cast housing (1) includes a hollow-profile field with an insert (2) of metal foam, the profile forming a housing stiffener composed of a profile element (5) integrated with the housing wall sector (4). The housing is specifically a piston engine crankcase (6) and the profile (3) is arranged on a wall sector (4) on the longitudinal side of the housing and maximally removed from the crankshaft rotation axis (7). Apart from the side joined to the wall sector, the insert (2) is joined to the inside circumference of the trough-shaped profile (5).
