The shaft seal ring has a support ring connected to a sealing ring with sealing lip of polymer material. The support ring (1) is a one-piece component, and has two radial projections (6,7) at an axial distance relative to each other. The gap (9) thus formed contains a separately produced ring-shaped series seal (5), without adhesive and axially tensioned. The side of the first projection facing the second one has a coating (8) of polymer material. The series seal is of open-pored filter material, sealing ring (2) and coating are of elastomer material, or of two different materials, e.g. the ring may be of deep-drawn metal, or polymer.
