The system (1) has a laser unit (2) with a soft or hard laser, a transfer unit to transmit a laser beam to an applicator (10) and an operation element (11) to control the laser unit. One or more of the following modules may also be provided: (a) a multimedia module (5) with a DVD drive (5a) and a play-back unit, (b) a video module with a camera system (7) and a play-back unit, (c) a speech control module (6), (d) a user identification module with a personal card system (19), (e) an interface module (23) for connection with several computer systems, (f) a scanner module for reading and displaying video or X-ray images, (g) a protocol unit to determine input or speech data automatically during operation, (h) a calculator module to determine the actual laser performance used (i) and a warning unit, to indicate wither the laser beam is exiting the applicator. An Independent claim is included for a hand piece for the dental laser system.
