The regulator (24) has an output driver stage connected to a fuel distribution arrangement for the diesel engine (10) and to the electric motor (22) and that reacts to movement of the accelerator pedal and revolution rate information fed back from the diesel engine. The fuel distribution arrangement and the electric motor cause a relationship between the diesel engine power and revolution rate for each accelerator pedal position that is characterized by an optimal specific fuel consumption.
