The emitter includes a rotating piston tube revolvingly stored in a vacuum casing and cooled by a flow of a coolant. The rotating piston tube contains a cathode and a rotating piston anode which forms the floor of the rotating piston tube. An outer surface area (12) of the anode in contact with the coolant has an increased profiling. The outer surface area of the anode is preferably roughened, and may be equipped with grooves (20) or ribs.
