Multifilament superconductor strip production comprises application of a deformation aid strip between the conductor and the rolls during a rolling operation. A multifilament superconductor strip is produced by subjecting an assembly of conductor elements, comprising 2223-type bismuth cuprate material or precursor clad with normally conducting material, within a normally conducting material sheath to compaction by a cross-section reducing treatment which includes one or more rolling operations in which a deformation aid strip is applied between the conductor and the rolls. An Independent claim is also included for a multifilament superconductor strip produced by the above process. Preferred Features: The deformation aid comprises an already deformed conductor or a strip of Ag (alloy) or Cu (alloy).
