A multifilament superconductor strip production process, comprising application of controlled tensile stress to the conductor during a rolling operation, is new. A multifilament superconductor strip is produced by subjecting an assembly of conductor elements, comprising 2223-type bismuth cuprate material or precursor clad with normally conducting material, within a normally conducting material sheath to compaction by a cross-section reducing treatment which includes one or more rolling operations in which a tensile stress is applied to the conductor between the rolls by controlled torque adjustment between an uncoiler and a coiler. An Independent claim is also included for a multifilament superconductor strip produced by the above process. Preferred Features: The applied tensile stress is -5 (especially -10) N/mm2.
