The protective cushion has two layers which define several chambers(11-14) which can be filled with fluid. A cylindrical element(20) in the form of a tube which is separate from the occupant-side and body-side layer is located between them in order to define a longitudinally extending fluid passage to an upper section of the cushion. The cylindrical element has at least one opening in its approximate centre to create a fluid connection between the fluid passage and chambers.
