The device has a vehicle seat with a seat cushion (1.1), a seat backrest (1.2) and a head rest (1.3). The vehicle seat is moved translationally or rotationally in collision direction by an actuator by detecting upcoming rear-end collision or entry of rear-end collision to the vehicle. The vehicle occupant is accelerated on the vehicle seat in collision direction. The seat backrest is pivoted in the direction of collision. An independent claim is also included for a method for protecting occupant in a vehicle.
