The head drive circuit (31) receives a control signal and several types of drive signals for driving piezoelectric elements and drives the piezoelectric elements in a head that can eject ink using the piezoelectric elements. The circuit contains selection parts connected to the piezoelectric elements for receiving the various types of drive signal, a control stage (31a) connected to the selection parts to control them on the basis of the control signal and for selecting a piezoelectric element and a drive signal to be used and current amplifier stages (31e) in each selection stage and piezoelectric element for amplifying the drive signals. Independent claims are also included for an ink jet printer and for a single chip head drive circuit.
