The bending method is for a hollow metal part (1) with flange (3). A pressure is applied to the flange in a direction, which cuts across the longitudinal direction of the element, to create a plastic pressure deformation on the flange. The element is bent along a flange surface so that the flange is positioned on an inner side of the bending process. Pressure forming application is increased, when the bending radius of the element decreases. The appliance has a holder (12) for the element, a pressure/press part integrally fastened to the holder, and a drive unit (16).
