A process for the selective coating of a transparent carrier plate with a working layer, consists of applying the layer selectively. The cover layer consists of a protective layer which is applied to the side of the working layer which does not face the carrier plate. The working layer is chemically etch resistant, so when a chemical etchant is applied, only those areas not covered are etched. The carrier plate pref. consists of an acrylic gloss film or plate.
