Selective dissolution of a zirconium based alloy matrix and selective attraction of the precipitated phases is carried out. Dissolution is done electrochemically where an initial constant current density is applied in an electrolytic solution comprising of perchloric acid, monoalkyl ether of ethylene glycol, the alkyl group chosen from linear and branched alkyl with 1-4C and an alcohol solvent. The residue comprising the selectively precipitated extracted phases is recovered. Analytical methods are selected from weighing, chemical analysis and x-ray diffraction, filtration and/or centrifugation.
