The invention concerns a method for classifying patients afflicted with schizophrenia consisting in analysing a protein extract prepared from at least a lymphoblastoid cell line of said patients by western blot with a monoclonal antibody; and selecting said patients for whom the analysis has revealed the existence of an acidic protein of 52 to 57 kDa having a polyglutamine expansion.
