PURPOSE: To set an accurate recording condition which is not affected by thermal interference by providing a repeat pattern level detecting means, an isolated pattern level detecting means, and a comparing means of both levels and setting the recording condition in accordance with the comparison result. ;CONSTITUTION: A repeat pattern level detecting means 1 detects a peak level V1 of the part of a reproduced signal W from a photodetector 22 corresponding to a repeat mark pattern. An isolated pattern level detecting means 2 detects a peak level V2 of the part of the reproduced signal W corresponding to an isolated mark pattern. A comparing means 3 outputs a level difference ΔV between peak levels V1 and V2 to a repeat and isolated pattern generating means 4. Consequently, the intensity of a light beam and the pulse length are so set that the level difference ΔV becomes minimum, thereby setting the recording condition for information recording under the same thermal interference.
