METHOD FOR DETECTING AND MONITORING LEAK OF NATURAL GAS USING MICROORGANISM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the leak of natural gas in a bedrock stockpile site by monitoring the number of microorganisms having an ability of assimilating hydrocarbons in groundwater in the bedrock stockpile site for natural gas using a base sequence of a region having specific conservativeness or base sequence complementary thereto in a base sequence of its genomic DNA.;SOLUTION: This method permits enhancing the detection sensitivity by directly detecting leaked gas or indirectly detecting the in situ leak situation in a bedrock stockpile base for natural gas under a high groundwater pressure. A monitoring technique of the natural gas leak situation in bedrock is provided and can be used as an index for the safety management. Monitoring the number of methane-oxidizing bacteria permits diagnosing the bioremediation state for leaked methane and other gases.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
