PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively polish the tread of an intended wheel and prevent the tread from being mirror finished by bringing an abrasive means to the tread of the wheel in a partial section of a rail on which a rolling stock is traveled. ;SOLUTION: In a section having an auxiliary rail 5, an abrasive means 10 making contact with the tread of a wheel 1 instead of a rail 2 is provided. Namely, the auxiliary rail 5 is provided along the notched part of the rail 2, and the abrasive means 10 is provided within the notched part. The abrasive means 10 is provided at least over the section corresponding to the length of one rotation of a flange part 4 so as to make contact with the tread 3 of the wheel over at least one circuit or more. In the section having the auxiliary rail 5, the tread 3 is brought into contact with the abrasive means 10 while the axle load of the rolling stock is supported by the auxiliary rail 5, whereby the tread 3 can be polished to a necessary surface roughness.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
