PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selectively separating eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid or esters thereof from a mixture containing highly unsaturated aliphatic acids or derivatives thereof and purifying the same. ;SOLUTION: A silver salt is supported on diatomaceous earth by making an aqueous medium containing the silver salt flow through a column filled with the diatomaceous earth. Next a solvent solution of a mixture containing highly unsaturated aliphatic acids or derivatives thereof is made to flow through the silver salt-containing diatomaceous earth in the column and then a developer is made to flow whereby eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid or esters thereof are selectively separated and purified.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
