PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light irradiation method capable of applying light to a part to be irradiated from an emitting end part as far as the emitting end part of light is brought into contact with a part intended to be irradiated. SOLUTION: This contact type light irradiation chip includes a light emitting part 8 having an emitting surface 8 formed at a designated angle to the optical axis 10, and is adapted to emit light through the emitting surface to be applied to a part to be irradiated with the emitting surface in contact with the part to be irradiated. In this chip, the designated angle (x) is set in such a manner that, when the emitting surface comes into contact with the air, light traveling toward the emitting surface is total-reflected on the emitting surface, and when the emitting surface comes into contact with the part to be irradiated formed of a medium having a refractive index larger than that of the air, light traveling toward the emitting surface is emitted through the emitting surface.
