PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten lens centering time in an automatic clamping method.;SOLUTION: In a process of clamping a lens R1 by bringing a movable side bell holder 2 close toward the lens R1 sucked to a fixed side bell holder 1, by an axial drive part 4, the lens R1 is slid relative to the bell holders 1, 2 to perform initial centering, then suction force is released, and both bell holders 1, 2 are rotated at high speed in the state of holding the lens R1 at a low pressure to complete centering of the lens R1. In the centering process, the suction force of the fixed side bell holder 1 is controlled to about 98 kPa or less to effectively perform initial centering and to shorten the whole centering time.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
