PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact energy absorbing structure on a vehicle body, capable of adjusting energy absorbing properties after manufacturing metallic pipes or hybrid pipes. SOLUTION: This impact energy absorbing structure is a structure which absorbs impact energy on a vehicle body, having the structural member of a vehicle body, an interior material disposed inside the structural member at regular intervals, and an energy absorbing material disposed inside the spacing. The energy absorbing material is a hybrid pipe 60 constituted of a metallic- paper core material 62 and sheets 64 layered respectively on both front and back sides of the core material, whose material is any other one than metal. The hybrid pipe 60 is formed by deforming the core material 62 and the back and front sheets continuously into a recessed part 66 and protruding part 68 in the axial direction, and at least part of the outer surface and/or the inner surface of the hybrid pipe is covered with an adhesive coating material 70.
