PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact energy absorbing structure of an upper part of an automobile body, which can be put into effect when a displacement distance for an energy absorbing material is different. SOLUTION: This is a structure absorbing impact energy of an upper part of an automobile body having a structure member, a trimming material disposed at intervals inside the structure member, and an energy absorbing material disposed within the intervals. The energy absorbing material is a hybrid pipe 70 consisting of metal leaf of a core material 72 and nonmetal sheets 74 laid on front and back sides of the core material, respectively. The hybrid pipe is formed to make the core material and the sheets 74 on the front and back sides deformed for having recessed parts 76 and protruding parts 78 in an axial direction consecutively, and is formed to make two pitches (P1, P2) between two protruding parts disposed next to each other partly different in an axial direction.
