PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm effects such as antimicrobial activity, suppression of uresase activity, intragastric fixability and interleukin-8 generation, or the like, against Helicobacter pylori which is a pathogen of gastritis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer and then to identify and obtain an active ingredient against Helicobacter pylori from Perilla frutescens var. acuta KUDO which is a food material. SOLUTION: This extract comprises one or more kinds of hot-water extracts produced by adding water in an amount of 5-20 times weight based on the Perilla frutescens var. actua KUDO, carrying out hot-water extraction thereof at 80-120 deg.C for 6-15 h and carrying out vacuum concentration of the filtrate under 40-70 cmHg and a solvent extract produced by adding 50-70% ethanol in an amount of 5-20 times weight based on the amount of the crude drug material, then extracting at 50-90 deg.C for 4-8 h and carrying out vacuum concentration of the filtrate under 40-70 cmHg, and has the effects such as the antimicrobial activity and the suppressions of urease activity of Helicobacter, of gastric epithelial cell fixability and suppression of interleukin-8 purification against the Helicobacter pylori. Besides, a berberine becomes a main active ingredient in the extract of the Perilla frutescens var. acuta KUDO by dividing a water-soluble layer obtained therefrom using an organic solvent such as chloroform and an XAD-7 column chromatography and a silica column chromatography and separating the main active ingredient by using a preparative thin layer chromatography(TLC).
