PURPOSE: To provide a method for checking water leak of underground city water pipe which can detect a water leak point highly accurately based on the peak in the concentration distribution of rare gas while contributing to the reduction of the are gas to be used and the shortening of checking time. ;CONSTITUTION: A time interval for feeding a tracer water, int2 which a rare gas or a tracer gas containing the rare gas is dissolved, and a time interval for feeding a water containing no tracer gas into an underground city water pipe within a section to be checked are set. A rare gas detector is moved on the ground surface along the underground city water pipe within the section to be checked. The rare gas discharged onto the ground surface from the tracer water leaked into the ground from a damaged part of the underground city water pipe is detected by the rare gas detector on the ground surface thus detecting a water leak point.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
