PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proper mechanism for retransmission which is usable in case of error occurrence when image information to be recorded on the surface and backside of recording paper is sent and received. SOLUTION: In an error occurs (A) while a (n)th page (P(n)) is transmitted while both surfaces of (k) both-sided documents P (1) to P (k) are successively transmitted, all the pages are sent from P (1) 0, i.e., a 1st surface. If an error occurs (B) during the transmission of the backside P (n) 1 of a page P (n) (n=1), the page p (n) where the error has occurred and following images P (n) 0 to P (k) 0 of the surface side are all transmitted and then the page P (n) where the error has occurred and images P (n) 1 to P (k) 1 of backsides on the following surface side are transmitted.
