PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the usefulness and versatility of an electronic catalog by keeping the degree of freedom in the change of the electronic catalog and making changed electronic catalog data usable in a conventional system as well. SOLUTION: This electronic catalog maintenance system is almost composed of a dictionary editor 1 for editing electronic catalog dictionary data 10, BSU code change managing function 2 for managing the change of a BSU code, which is an identifier contained in the electronic catalog dictionary data 10, dictionary change condition detecting function 5 for detecting the change of the electronic catalog dictionary data 10, dictionary system quality inspecting function 6 for inspecting the quality of the changed electronic catalog dictionary data 10, DB managing part 7 for editing for managing the input/output of data to respective data bases, master DB managing part 8, DB 14 for electronic catalog dictionary editing for preserving respective data, DB 16 for BSU code change managing and editing, electronic catalog dictionary master DB 20, and BSU code change managing master DB 22.
