PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for discriminating a breed of pig by treating a melanocyte-stimulating hormone receptor gene, c-KIT gene, or the like which were extracted from a pig with restriction enzyme(s), followed by carrying out the restriction enzyme fragment length polymorphism analysis of the obtained DNA fragments.;SOLUTION: This method comprises the steps of treating a melanocyte- stimulating hormone receptor gene which was extracted from colored pig breeds comprising breed Hampshire, breed Berkshire, breed Meishang, breed Mong Cai, and breed Duroc, and white pig breeds comprising breed Landrace and breed Big Yorkshire, and has a base sequence shown by formula I, II, or the like or its partial sequence with at least one restriction enzyme(s), carrying out the restriction enzyme fragment length polymorphism analysis of the obtained DNA fragments, discriminating the group comprising breed Hampshire, breed Berkshire, and white pig breeds from the group comprising breed Duroc, treating c-KIT gene having a base sequence shown by formula III, IV, or the like with at least one restriction enzyme(s), followed by carrying out the restriction enzyme fragment length polymorphism analysis of the obtained fragments.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
