The present Invention relates to a method for the prophylactic and therapeutic Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy.The Method consists in the Administration of an inhibitor of the branched chain amino acid dependent aminotransferase (BCAT), an animal, such as a Mammal,In particular, a Human, in a sufficient amount of prophylactic and therapeutically to treat Diabetic Retinopathy.The present Invention also relates to several novel inhibitors of the BCAT.
