The invention relates to a process for preparing a lyophilized purified polyholoside extract from Plantago sp. According to the invention, the process consists of the aqueous extraction of the delipidated/deballasted plant material, while boiling, in a reactor provided with stirring and thermostating means, the separation of the resulting extract by filtration, vacuum concentration, separation of the polyholoside components by precipitation with ethyl alcohol, centrifugation, drying and suspension in distilled water, for purification, the polyholoside solution being vacuum concentrated and reprecipitated with ethyl alcohol, the resulting purified polyholoside precipitate being dried and resuspended in distilled water, concentrated and conditioned by lyophilization.
