PREPARATIONS OF ISLET AMYLOID POLYPEPTIDE (IAPP) AND ANTIBODIES TO IAPP

Islet amyloid polypeptide substantially free of islet amyloidwhich can be isolated from islet amyloid of different mammalsand when isolated from humans it has the following amino acidsequence in positions 1-37: Lys-Cys-Asn-Thr-Ala-Thr-Cys-Ala-Thr-Gln-Arg-Leu-Ala-Asn-Phe-Leu-Val-His-Ser-Ser-Asn-Asn-Phe-Gly-Ala-Ile-Leu-Ser-Ser-Thr-Asn-Val-Gly-Ser-Asn-Thr-Tyr.While other attempts have been made to isolate andcharacterize the major component of islet amyloid, none havebeen successful. Proteins containing the amino acid sequenceof the polypeptide or of active fragments of the polypeptidemay be employed for diagnosis of disease related to thebiological function of the polypeptide. The anti-IAPPantibody preparations provided by the present invention canbe used to determine IAPP concentration in biologicalsamples.
