The present invention offers an alternative to thechlorofluorocarbons which have been used in the cleaningindustry. In particular, the present invention uses asolution having tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) and anactivator. As activators, compounds of the formula(See formula I)wherein R1, R2 and R3 are independently hydrogen, C1-C7alkyl, C5-C6 cycloalkyl, furanyl which can be substitutedby C1-C7 alkyl, tetrahydrofuranyl which can be substitutedby C1-C7 alkyl, pyrrolyl, pyrrolidinyl, benzyl which can besubstituted by C1-C7 alkyl, phenyl which can be substitutedby C1-C7 alkyl, C1-C7 alkenyl, C1-C7 alkynl, furfuryl whichcan be substituted by C1-C7 alkyl, or tetrahydrofurfurylwhich can be substituted by C1-C7 alkyl, wherein R1, R2 andR3 can be substituted by at least one hydroxy group,provided that R1, R2 and R3 are not simultaneouslyhydrogen, orwherein R4 is hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl, C5-C6 cycloalkyl,furanyl which can be substituted by C1-C6 alkyl,tetrahydrofuranyl which can be substituted by C1-C6 alkyl,pyrrolyl, pyrrolidinyl, or benzyl which can be substitutedby C1-C6 alkyl, R5 is C1-C6 alkyl, C5-C6 cycloalkyl,furanyl which can be substituted by C1-C6 alkyl,tetrahydrofuranyl which can be substituted by C1-C6 alkyl,furfuryl which can be substituted by C1-C6 alkyl,tetrahydrofurfuryl which can be substituted by C1-C6 alkyl,pyrrolyl, pyrrolidinyl, benzyl which can be substituted byC1-C6 alkyl, or the group-(C)a -O-(C)b -O-(C)b -OH20wherein a is from 1 to 3 and b is from 1 to 4, can be used.In addition to the activators (I) or (II), the presentinvention can also include as activators cyclic or non-cyclic diamines, pyrrolidone, which can be substituted byC1-C6 alkyl or C1-C6 alkenyl, or butyrolactone.
