SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GEOMAGNETIC AND IONOSPHERIC FORECASTING

A system and method forecast geomagnetic eventsand resulting currents from ground and space weather data,including solar wind velocity data and interplanetarymagnetic field data. The system has a processor including afirst prediction generator for predicting a midnightequatorial boundary (MEB) value; a second predictiongenerator for predicting a polar cap potential (PCP) valuefrom the ground and space weather data; an AL and AUprediction generator for predicting AL and AU values; a Kpvalue generator for generating a Kp-related value; anelectric field pattern generator for determining electricfield patterns from the Kp value, the PCP value, and theground and space weather data; a conductivity generator fordetermining conductivity values from the ground and spaceweather data and the Kp value; and an adaptive feedbackgenerator for adaptively generating the geomagneticparameters from the conductivity values, the electric fieldvalues, and the predicted AL and AU values. The geomagneticforecasting system and method forecast geomagneticparameters and events such as the occurrence of magneticstorms and substorms and their effects on ionosphericcurrents using ground and space-based measurements.
