CATALYST FOR EXOTHERMIC OR ENDOTHERMIC REACTION, CATALYST FOR WATER-GAS-SHIFT REACTION AND CATALYST FOR SELECTIVE OXIDATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE, AND PLATE-FIN HEAT EXCHANGE TYPE REFORMER
A catalyst for an exothermic reaction such as burning or an endothermicreaction such as steam reforming and a method for preparing the catalyst; acatalyst for a water-gas-shift reaction or a selective oxidation of carbonmonoxide and a method for preparing the catalyst; and a plate-fin heatexchange type reformer. A method for preparing a catalyst wherein a metal or ametal oxide having a catalytic activity is homogeneously carried in a highdegree of dispersion, which comprises forming a porous oxide film on a metalsubstrate, immersing the resultant substrate in an aqueous solution of a metalcompound being a weak electrolyte having a small degree of dissociation or inan organic solvent solution of a metal compound, and then firing the resultingproduct. A plate-fin heat exchange type reformer having a high electrothermicefficiency characterized in that a plurality of heat exchange elements each ofwhich has a catalyst for burning reaction on one face of a barrier plate and acatalyst for a steam reforming reaction, a catalyst for a water-gas-shiftreaction and a catalyst for a selective oxidation of carbon monoxide on theother face thereof are laminated. The above catalysts are suitable for use ina hydrogen generator for a solid polymer type fuel cell, since it has a highactivity at a relatively low temperature and is reduced in the by-productionof carbon monoxide.
