CATALYST FOR EXOTHERMIC OR ENDOTHERMIC REACTION, CATALYST FOR WATER-GAS-SHIFT REACTION AND CATALYST FOR SELECTIVE OXIDATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE, AND PLATE-FIN HEAT EXCHANGE TYPE REFORMER
Provided is a catalyst for exothermic reaction such as combustion reaction or endothermic reaction such as steam reforming reaction and a method of producing the catalyst, a catalyst for water-gas-shift reaction or selective oxidization reaction of carbon monoxide and a method of producing the catalyst, and a plate-fin heat exchange type reformer. A method of producing a catalyst in which metal or metal oxide having catalytic activity is uniformly carried in a well-dispersed condition, comprises forming a porous oxide layer on a metal substrate, immersing the resulting metal substrate in an aqueous solution of a metal compound of a weak electrolyte with small degree of salt dissociation or in an organic solvent solution of a metal compound, and then calcining the resulting product. A plate-fin heat exchange type reformer having high heat conductivity is characterized in that a plurality of heat exchange elements each of which has a catalyst for combustion reaction on one of surfaces of a separating wall and a catalyst for steam reforming reaction, a catalyst for water-gas-shift reaction and a catalyst for selective oxidation reaction of carbon monoxide on the other surface thereof are provided. These catalysts are suitable for use in a hydrogen generator for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, because it has a high activity at relatively low temperatures and by-product of carbon monoxide is reduced.
