The invention relates to a concept for ensuring that the product authenticity of brand-name products is clearly recognisable. Said concept comprises a method for personalising a memory chip for a trademark protection system, a testing device for testing memory chips and for verifying product data for a trademark protection system and a method for checking product data. According to the inventive concept, a product chip with a signature that is clearly identifiable throughout a system is allocated to each brand-name item. Brand-name items and therefore imitations can then be reliably identified using a testing device.
