The invention is directed to transgenic plants exhibiting an altered flowering time due to an altered expression of the MADS box gene SVP (Short Vegetative Phase), a gene which appears to be involved in the timing of the flowering of plants. Furthermore, the invention is directed to novel cDNA sequences of said SVP gene, DNA constructs, in particular vectors, carrying said novel cDNAs, microorganisms transformed with a construct comprising said novel cDNAs as well as the gene products of the SVP gene and antibodies recognizing said gene products.
