The invention discloses a novel polypeptide, human insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 9, the polynucleotide encoding the same and the method of producing thereof by DNA recombinant techniques. Methods of using the polypeptide for treating various diseases such as fetation disorder, bone and joint hypogenesis, neuropathy, hypotrophy, various tumors, inflammation, immune diseases, hematopathy, HIV infection are also disclosed. Furthermore, the invention discloses the antagonists of the polypeptide and the effects thereof. The use of the polynucleotide encoding the novel human insulin-like growth factor binding protein 9 is also disclosed.
